Tyron Smith To Suit Up In Week 15

The Dallas Cowboys have officially activated Tyron Smith (knee) from Injured Reserve, and the offensive tackle will carry no injury designation into Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Smith suffered an avulsion fracture of his knee in August and will be making his 2022 season debut in Week 15. With Terence Steele (knee) set to miss the remainder of the year, Smith is actually expected to start at right tackle. Although this is not his usual position, the presence of the eight-time Pro Bowler should provide a nice boost for the Cowboys' offensive line.

Tyron Smith To Be Designated To Return From IR

The Dallas Cowboys will designate offensive tackle Tyron Smith (knee) to return from Injured Reserve on Wednesday, which will open up his 21-day practice window. Smith won't have any padded practices this week, but his return for the Dallas offense this year would be a big boost. The 31-year-old suffered an avulsion fracture in his left knee in August and will be making his season debut whenever he gets into a game. It's unlikely that the eight-time Pro Bowler will play in Week 14 against the Houston Texans, but he should return at the tail end of the season and could be an X-factor for Dallas' offensive line in the postseason.

Tyron Smith Still A Ways From A Possible Return

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said that left tackle Tyron Smith (knee, hamstring) is around three to four weeks away from starting his 21-day window to practice with the team. However, Jones is also cautious that could change. The 31-year-old has been on Injured Reserve since Aug. 31 after having surgery on his left knee. If the Cowboys don't activate Smith within the 21-day window once he's designated to return, he'll have to remain on IR for the remainder of the 2022 season, which is a real possibility given his injury. If Smith actually does make a return this year, it might not be until/if the Cowboys make the playoffs.

Tyron Smith Expected To Return This Year

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring, knee) is expected to play in 2022. "I expect to have Tyron back. And be back for the meat of the season," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. Jones had surgery recently to fix an avulsion fracture in his left knee after his hamstring muscle was pulled off the bone. Losing the 31-year-old left tackle is a huge blow for the Cowboys to begin the year, but it could've been worse. For now, expect rookie first-rounder Tyler Smith to be thrown right into the fire in Week 1 as quarterback Dak Prescott's blind-side protector.

Tyron Smith To Have Surgery Friday

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring) will have surgery on Friday, and the team hopes he'll be able to return at some point in December. Smith suffered an avulsion fracture of his left knee in training camp practice, meaning his hamstring tendon that sits at the back of the knee pulled off the bone, according to sources. It's a tough loss for Dallas' offensive line right before the start of the regular season. With the 31-year-old now out for an extended time period, offensive tackles Tyler Smith, Josh Ball and Matt Waletzko will compete for starting duties on quarterback Dak Prescott's blind side. Smith is an eight-time Pro Bowler, so it's certainly a downgrade for Prescott's protection.

Tyron Smith Tears Hamstring, Out Indefinitely

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tryon Smith (hamstring) suffered a torn left hamstring in training camp practice on Wednesday. This was further clarified to be an avulsion fracture of the knee, meaning the hamstring tendon at the back of his knee was pulled off. The former All-Pro will reportedly require surgery and is expected to be out until at least December. This is a massive blow to the Cowboys offensive line. The 31-year-old is one of the best in the game, evidenced by a grade of 90.2 in 2021, which was the second-highest behind only Trent Williams, according to Pro Football Focus. This will force Dallas to lean on other less talented options, which may include rookie Tyler Smith. This figures to have a negative impact on their rushing attack and pass protection, primarily affecting lead back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott, both of whom may see a small dip in production. Hopefully, the former first-round pick can get back on the field and help his team down the stretch.
