Melvin Gordon III NEWS
  • Melvin Gordon III Expected To Sign With Chiefs

Two-time Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon III is expected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad, according to a source. Gordon was released by the Denver Broncos last week, but he should be active soon and will give the Chiefs another weapon for the stretch run with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) on Injured Reserve. Gordon is no longer in his prime and has fumbling issues (five fumbles in 10 games this year), but he could be a weapon for the Chiefs' high-octane offense alongside rookie Isiah Pacheco and pass-catching back Jerick McKinnon to close out the 2022 season. The 29-year-old had 90 carries for 318 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and two touchdowns while adding 25 receptions on 32 targets for 223 yards in his 10 games with the Broncos this year. He'll be a waiver-wire stash in deeper leagues.

  • Melvin Gordon III Waived By Broncos

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III has been waived by the team just a day after fumbling for the fifth time this season. This is somewhat of a surprise since newly acquired running back Chase Edmonds suffered an ankle injury in the Broncos' Week 11 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. That said, this will be Latavius Murray's backfield moving forward, with Marlon Mack and Devine Ozigbo likely having somewhat of a role. For now, Gordon's fantasy managers should wait to see if he is claimed off waivers or signed as a free agent before deciding whether or not to drop him from rosters.

  • Melvin Gordon III To Remain Starting Back

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III will remain the starter, according to general manager George Paton. The organization acquired running back Chase Edmonds at the trade deadline, making it a bit uncertain whether or not Gordon would remain the starter in Denver moving forward. It appears he will, and Edmonds and Latavius Murray will be mixed in as the backups. The addition of Edmonds shouldn't hurt the value of Gordon too much, but it won't help it, either. He should remain rostered because he's still likely going to get the most touches out of everyone in this backfield. However, none of them have great upside in a three-back committee.

  • Melvin Gordon III Hard To Trust Against The Jets

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (neck, ribs) has practiced in full the last few days and should be good to go for a Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets. Gordon started the Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers but finished with just three carries for eight yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game as Latavius Murray took over as the lead back. The 29-year-old didn't play at all in the second half. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett said that Gordon remains the team's lead back this week, making things even more confusing for fantasy managers. In this discombobulated and inconsistent Denver offense, it's hard to trust Gordon as anything more than a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex this weekend against a Jets team that has surprised so far in 2022.

  • Melvin Gordon III Will Start In Week 7

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon had only three rushing attempts for eight yards in the Week 6 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the great matchup against a poor Los Angeles run defense, Gordon was a massive fantasy bust. After earning three rushing attempts early in the game, the veteran running back was benched and clearly frustrated on the sidelines. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett said he had a "great talk" with Gordon, and the veteran running back will start in Week 7 against the New York Jets. While the head coach's words are positive news for the running back, fantasy players might find it hard to trust Hackett given some of his decisions this year. Hopefully, Gordon earns the bulk of work this week, and fantasy players can trust him moving forward.

  • Melvin Gordon III, Mike Boone Active On Monday Night

Denver Broncos running backs Melvin Gordon III (neck, ribs) and Mike Boone (foot) are both active on Monday night against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers. Gordon came in with a questionable tag after being limited in practice all week, while Boone was removed from the report on Saturday and two straight days of full practice. Latavius Murray, who was recently signed off the Saints practice squad, will make his Denver debut as RB depth behind both Gordon and Boone. With Javonte Williams (knee) done for the rest of the season, Gordon should continue to operate as the Broncos' lead back. He has RB2 upside to close out Week 6 action against his old squad.

  • Melvin Gordon III Questionable For Monday Night Football

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (ribs, neck) is officially questionable for the team's Week 6 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers. Gordon was listed as a limited participant in practice all week. The veteran assumed starting duties for the Broncos following a season-ending ACL tear suffered by Javonte Williams (knee) in Week 4. He handled 15 carries and three receptions last week while sharing the backfield with Mike Boone. If Gordon can suit up on Monday night, he will be a solid fantasy RB2 against a Chargers defense that has allowed the most PPR fantasy points to opposing running backs so far this season. Boone and Latavius Murray would likely split touches if Gordon is sidelined and would therefore both be in play as flex options. If either is available on waivers, fantasy managers should look to add them as a backup plan if relying on Gordon to start.

  • Melvin Gordon III Limited On Thursday

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (ribs, neck) was limited during Thursday's practice. This ribs issue is new and certainly not something fantasy managers want to see after Gordon just took over as the lead back. Luckily, the Broncos don't play until Monday night, so Gordon gets an extra day to rest. The expectation is that Gordon will play and be a RB2 versus the Los Angeles Chargers this week. Mike Boone will get his carries as the change-of-pace back, but Gordon should do most of the heavy lifting. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Friday to see if Gordon's status changes at all. Otherwise, Boone would be a popular streaming option if Gordon is unable to play in Week 6.

  • Melvin Gordon III Off The Final Injury Report

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (neck) was limited on Monday and Tuesday before putting in a full practice on Wednesday. He was removed from the final injury report this week and will play on Thursday night in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. Gordon has fumbled four times in four games so far this year, but he'll head into Thursday night's game as the clear lead back for Denver after Javonte Williams (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL and LCL on Sunday. Mike Boone and recent addition Latavius Murray could also be involved, but the 29-year-old should lead the backfield in touches against a Colts defense that is allowing only 89.5 rushing yards per game so far. With the expanded role, Gordon enters this week with clear RB2 upside.

  • Melvin Gordon III Viewed As Featured Back

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (neck) was limited during Tuesday's walkthrough practice. Fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned as it sounds like Gordon will be fine for Thursday night football. Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Otten mentioned that the plan is for Gordon to be the featured back going forward. They plan on getting Mike Boone involved as well, but Gordon will carry the load in the backfield. That being said, fantasy managers shouldn't view Boone as anything more than a deep flex option right now.

  • Melvin Gordon III Good To Go Against Raiders

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (neck) popped up on the injury report this week, but he was taken off the final injury report on Friday after getting in a full practice. He was limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Gordon will reprise his role as a frustrating backfield complement to Javonte Williams in a Week 4 matchup against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders, who have allowed just over 100 yards per game on the ground through three games. Gordon, not Williams, scored the team's first rushing touchdown last week, but he played only 38 percent of the snaps and has averaged a weak 3.9 yards per carry so far in 2022. In an offense that has looked very slugging early on, Gordon is nothing more than a low-upside RB3/flex for fantasy managers while sharing touches with the more explosive Williams.

  • Melvin Gordon III Limited On Wednesday

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III (neck) was limited during Wednesday's practice due to a neck injury. The eighth-year veteran has been seeing double-digit touches in this backfield behind Javonte Williams and doesn't appear to be giving them up any time soon. With this limited practice, it doesn't seem like anything fantasy managers should be too worried about as it's only Wednesday, and Gordon has a couple more days to get a full practice in. However, unless managers are desperate for help at running back, Gordon's Week 4 status probably won't be moving the needle much for fantasy.

  • Broncos To Ride Hot Hand With Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon?

Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett hinted that he may ride the hot hand between running backs Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon III in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. "I've always been a true believer in you want to roll with the hot hand. One guy gets going, you want to be sure to keep feeding that person. But I think they're going to be great complements to each other," Hackett said. Most reports this offseason suggested that the new coaching staff is ready to hand the keys to Williams, a second-year back that looked more explosive than Gordon last year despite a near-even timeshare. But with other reports suggesting it will be more of a committee, it's made Williams more of an RB2 than a true RB1 in 2022. Gordon will merely be a shaky RB3/flex against the Seahawks.
