Trevor Siemian To Have Season-Ending Surgery

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters on Friday that quarterback Trevor Siemian (oblique) will have season-ending surgery to fix the oblique injury that he suffered during pre-game warmups last week. Siemian played in the Week 12 loss to the New York Jets with the injury, but he'll now miss the rest of the season. The good news for the Bears is that starter Justin Fields (shoulder) will return under center this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. With Siemian out the rest of the way, either Nathan Peterman or the recently signed Tim Boyle will serve as Fields' emergency backup for the rest of the 2022 campaign. Siemian went 14-for-25 for 179 yards with a touchdown and an interception in last week's loss.

Justin Fields To Be Limited, Trevor Siemian DNP

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (shoulder) is expected to be limited in practice again on Thursday, while Trevor Siemian (oblique) is expected to miss yet another practice, according to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. It's the same designations the two QBs had on Wednesday, so nothing has changed. Fields is trending towards being a game-time decision in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers after sitting out last week's loss to the New York Jets. Out of playoff contention, the Bears won't risk endangering their franchise signal-caller if he's not ready. It sounds like Siemian won't be ready to play, so if Fields doesn't get the green light, the Bears offense will be led by either Nathan Peterman or recently signed Tim Boyle on Sunday. If Fields plays, he'll be a must-start QB1 in fantasy.

Justin Fields Limited, Trevor Siemian Misses Practice

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, while Trevor Siemian (oblique) did not practice. Head coach Matt Eberflus said both quarterbacks are "day-to-day." As insurance, the Bears signed quarterback Tim Boyle off the Detroit Lions' practice squad. Boyle has experience with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy from their time with the Green Bay Packers. Fields missed the Week 12 loss to the New York Jets and is questionable to play against the Packers this Sunday, but a limited practice early in the week is a good sign. Still, with Chicago out of playoff contention, the Bears aren't going to rush Fields back onto the field until he's fully healthy. The 23-year-old dual-threat signal-caller had become a must-start QB1 before his injury. If he misses another game and Siemian can't go either, it will be either Nathan Peterman or Boyle getting the starting nod.

Trevor Siemian Starts For Bears, Nathan Peterman Backing Him Up

Chicago Bears quarterback Trevor Siemian (oblique) officially drew the start against the New York Jets in Week 12. The Bears initially announced that Nathan Peterman would start after Siemian injured himself pregame, but the latter took pain-killing medication and was healthy enough to play after all. This whole saga took place in the midst of Justin Fields (shoulder) being inactive.

Trevor Siemian Starting For Bears In Week 12

Chicago Bears quarterback Trevor Siemian (oblique) injured himself during pregame warmups but is still expected to start against the New York Jets on Sunday. With Justin Fields (shoulder) sidelined, Siemian will be tasked with leading the Bears in the rain. Nathan Peterman, who was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, will serve as the Bears' backup while David Montgomery operates as the emergency third-string quarterback. The Jets' defense is a must-start in all leagues while Chicago's playmakers lack fantasy appeal.
