Sony Michel Waived By The Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers running back Sony Michel was waived by the team on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old signed with LA in August after a brief stint with the Dolphins. Yet, he wasn't productive during his tenure with the bolts, compiling only 106 yards off 36 carries in 10 appearances. Michel will likely find a new club at some point before the 2023-24 campaign. However, he's not expected to draw much interest on the fantasy end unless he gets routine work. In a corresponding move, Los Angeles activated defensive end Joey Bosa (groin), who had been sidelined since Week 3 due to a groin tear.

    Chargers Officially Sign Sony Michel

The Los Angeles Chargers signed free-agent running back Sony Michel to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Michel was cut loose by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, but he'll quickly find a new home in a loaded Chargers offense. Joshua Kelley figures to open the 2022 regular season as Austin Ekeler's primary backup, but Michel could compete for backup duties with Kelley once he gets a grasp on his new team's offense. The addition of Michel is certainly bad news for Kelly and rookie Isaiah Spiller, who now figures to be fourth on the RB depth chart. The 27-year-old Michel is worth a waiver addition in deeper leagues, especially if you have Ekeler rostered. The former first-rounder had 208 carries for 845 yards and four touchdowns in 17 regular season games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, adding 21 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown receiving.

    Dolphins Release Sony Michel

The Miami Dolphins released running back Sony Michel on Monday. Michel didn't impress the coaching staff enough in training camp and the preseason to make the cut in a crowded backfield that also includes Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. The 27-year-old former first-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2018 filled in nicely for the Rams in 2021 due to injuries to Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson Jr. In 17 regular season games (seven starts), Michel had 208 carries for 845 yards and four touchdowns, adding 21 catches for 128 yards and another score. He doesn't have much pass-catching chops, but Michel could easily latch on with another organization as RB depth before the start of the regular season. For now, he's off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues.
