  • Giants Sign James Washington To Practice Squad

The New York Giants signed former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver James Washington to their practice squad on Wednesday. Washington was expected to have a significant role in Dallas' passing game to begin the year, but he fractured his right foot in training camp and didn't make his season debut until Week 14 and ended up playing in two games for the Cowboys, finishing without a catch on one target. Dallas picked up veteran T.Y. Hilton late in the year and didn't really have a need for Washington at that point. New York's receiver depth is lacking, but even if the 26-year-old Washington is brought up to the active roster for the postseason, he's highly unlikely to see much action on the field.

  • Cowboys Release James Washington

With the emergence of newly signed Dallas Cowboys receiver T.Y. Hilton, the team released receiver James Washington on Wednesday, according to a source. Washington is healthy and has played in two games for the Cowboys this year, but he'll head to waivers and could very well be claimed by another team. The 26-year-old pass-catcher broke his foot in training camp last summer and didn't make his debut with Dallas until Week 14. In the two games he was active, he played only 15 offensive snaps and failed to haul in his only target. Meanwhile, Hilton has quickly gained chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott and could play a vital role in the postseason for the Cowboys' passing attack. If Washington lands in the right situation, he could bounce back in 2023.

  • Cowboys Activate James Washington From Injured Reserve

The Dallas Cowboys activated wide receiver James Washington (foot) from Injured Reserve on Saturday, and he'll play in Week 14 against the Houston Texans on Sunday, according to a source. Earlier this week, head coach Mike McCarthy said Washington was "ready to go." The 26-year-old suffered a broken foot in training camp during the summer and will be making his 2022 season debut this weekend. Washington will have his snaps limited after such a long layoff, so he shouldn't be any starting fantasy lineups against Houston, but he'll give the Cowboys more receiver depth to close out the regular season and into the playoffs. The former Steeler will likely struggle to produce fantasy relevant numbers over the final five games of the season.

  • James Washington Could Return In Week 14

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday that wide receiver James Washington (foot) may be able to make his season debut in Week 14 against the Houston Texans on Sunday. "Based off on Wednesday and Thursday's work, I think he's ready to go," McCarthy said. Washington suffered a fractured right foot in training camp and hasn't played at all in 2022 to this point. If the 26-year-old does return, the Cowboys will likely put him on a strict snap count due to his long layoff. And even when he's fully healthy, he may struggle to get on the field for valuable targets in a receiving corps that includes CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Noah Brown and rookie Jalen Tolbert.

  • James Washington Expected To Return To Practice

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to open the 21-day practice window for wide receiver James Washington (foot) on Wednesday, according to a source. Washington has been on Injured Reserve after breaking his foot in training camp. The 26-year-old last practiced on Aug. 1, so it's highly unlikely that he'd be officially activated from Injured Reserve to play in Week 13 on Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts. But it's good news for Dallas' receiving depth to close out the season. Washington was expected to open the year as the No. 2 behind CeeDee Lamb with Michael Gallup recovering from offseason knee surgery, but that never transpired. Once healthy, Washington will be battling for targets with Gallup and Noah Brown. Don't expect much from him once he does make his 2022 season debut.

  • James Washington Out Of His Walking Boot

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver James Washington (foot) was seen without his walking boot last week. Washington injured his foot early in training camp and required surgery. He's currently on Injured Reserve and will miss at least the first four regular season games, which means he'll start on the waiver wire in most single-season fantasy leagues. The 26-year-old could make his season debut in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams. When he returns, he could be the team's No. 3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, but that might also depend on how rookie Jalen Tolbert fares with increased opportunity early in the season.

  • James Washington Placed On Injured Reserve

The Dallas Cowboys placed wide receiver James Washington (foot) and left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday and re-signed cornerback C.J. Goodwin and long-snapper Jake McQuaide to the 53-man roster in corresponding moves. Washington and Smith are expected to return midseason. Washington will have to miss at least the first four games, while Smith isn't expected back until sometime in December. Washington fractured his foot in training camp practice, and he was initially expected to miss six to 10 weeks, leaving him on the outside looking in for fantasy relevance to begin the regular season. In his absence and with Michael Gallup (knee) not ready for Week 1, rookie Jalen Tolbert and Noah Brown will be asked to step up behind No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb.
