  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Robert Quinn Activated From Injured Reserve

Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (abdomen) and defensive end Robert Quinn (knee) has been officially activated from the injured reserve. Both defenders are expected to suit up for the Week 18 matchup against the New York Giants. This is great news for the Eagles who have been without Gardner-Johnson since early December. Both players should certainly boost this defensive unit heading into the postseason. The Eagles defense is looking like a fantastic play against the Giants who are resting a majority of their starters.

  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Robert Quinn Designated To Return

The Philadelphia Eagles designated safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (abdomen) and defensive end Robert Quinn (knee) to return from Injured Reserve on Wednesday. Both defenders are now eligible to practice and could return to play in the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the New York Giants if they are officially activated from Injured Reserve by then. Gardner-Johnson has played a key role in Philly's secondary but has been on IR since Dec. 3 after suffering a lacerated kidney in Week 12. Quinn went on IR in Week 13 and will also be a key addition to an already strong Eagles defense as they get ready for the postseason. Even if Gardner-Johnson and Quinn don't return this weekend, the Eagles defense will be an intriguing play against a Giants team that is expected to be resting their starters.

  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson Out Indefinitely With Lacerated Kidney

Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (kidney) is out indefinitely after suffering a lacerated kidney in the Sunday night win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 12, according to sources. It's a non-surgical injury for Gardner-Johnson and testing is ongoing, so his timetable is still to be determined, but it's not expected to be a season-ending injury. The 24-year-old could land on Injured Reserve, however, which would keep him out for at least four games. With the Eagles pretty much a lock to make the postseason, the Eagles will probably hope he can return for a deep playoff run. It's a big loss for Philly's secondary, though, as Gardner-Johnson had racked up a career-high 60 tackles (55 solo), four tackles for loss, one sack, a league-high six interceptions and eight passes defensed in 11 starts.

  • Eagles Acquire Chauncey Gardner-Johnson From Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired starting safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft from the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday in exchange for a fifth-rounder in 2023 and a sixth-round selection in 2024. Gardner-Johnson had been in contract talks with the Saints until a couple of days ago, and when talks broke down, both sides were willing to move on. The Saints have a ton of depth in their secondary, so the 24-year-old became expendable. Gardner-Johnson is a big-time playmaker that will start immediately in Philly's secondary. The former fourth-rounder played in only 11 games last year, recording 46 tackles (32 solo), two sacks, four tackles for loss, four QB hits, a career-high three interceptions and seven passes defensed.
