Brian Hoyer Placed On Injured Reserve

New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been placed on the injured reserve. That means, Hoyer will miss at least the next four weeks of action. Mac Jones (ankle) is still banged up as well, so Bailey Zappe could be asked to start in Week 5. At this moment, it sounds like the Pats are leaning towards starting Zappe versus the Detroit Lions this week. That being said, fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option than Zappe for this upcoming week.

Brian Hoyer Done For Week 4 Due To Injury

New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer (head) won't return to Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers. The veteran started for Mac Jones (ankle) in Week 4. However, Hoyer didn't last long, accumulating only 37 yards off 5-for-6 passing before exiting the contest for a concussion evaluation. With Jones and Hoyer now dealing with injuries, 2022 fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe will handle things under center, potentially even starting in Week 5 against the visiting Detroit Lions.

Mac Jones Making Progress, Brian Hoyer In Line To Start

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that quarterback Mac Jones (ankle) has made a lot of progress in the last 24 to 48 hours, and the team is taking it day-to-day. Veteran QB Brian Hoyer will get the start in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers in the likely event that Jones can't go. Jones suffered a severe left high-ankle sprain in the Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, so he's likely to miss multiple games at the very least. The 36-year-old Hoyer has plenty of familiarity with Belichick's offense, but he will be a downgrade for all of New England's offensive skill players for however long Jones is sidelined. The Packers defense/special teams will be a popular starting option this week.
