Geno Smith Expected To Start For Seahawks Next Season

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has enjoyed an incredible breakout campaign, finishing in the top 10 in the regular season in passing yards, passing touchdowns and completion percentage while leading the team to a playoff berth. Smith will enter unrestricted free agency this offseason, but the Seahawks are expected to pursue a new contract with the signal-caller and could franchise tag him if necessary. He is well-liked within the organization and has proven his worth as a QB1. With Smith under center again in 2023, wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett should continue to produce at a high level.

Geno Smith, DK Metcalf Will Play In Week 14

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (shoulder) and wide receiver DK Metcalf (hip) are both good to go for the Week 14 game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Smith was removed from the injury report on Friday, while Metcalf got a questionable tag. Smith's right shoulder is worth watching moving forward, but the 32-year-old will play and will have his top two weapons -- Metcalf and Tyler Lockett -- available. Treat him as a low-end QB1 in fantasy. Metcalf was held out of Friday's practice for rest purposes. The 24-year-old's hip injury is worth keeping an eye on, but he'll attempt to play through it Sunday. Metcalf has drawn at least eight targets in five straight games and is a must-start in fantasy.

Geno Smith, DK Metcalf Limited In Practice

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (shoulder) and wide receiver DK Metcalf (hip) were both added to the Week 14 injury report on Thursday and were listed as limited practice participants. Unless either player gets a downgrade in Friday's practice, they should be able to play this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Smith is having a career year in his ninth NFL season and he has multiple passing touchdowns in each of the last six games, including three in last week's win over the Los Angeles Rams. He's become a low-end QB1 in 2022. With Smith looking like a new man this season, Metcalf has benefitted as is a low-end, must-start WR1 if he's active. Metcalf has 67 receptions on 100 targets for 798 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. He may not reach double-digit TDs like he has the last two years, but everything else has been strong.

Seahawks Want Geno Smith, Drew Lock Back In 2023

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has played well enough that the team wants to bring him back in 2023, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The veteran has come out of nowhere to rank among the league's best in many key passing categories, all while leading the Seahawks to a 6-3 record. As Rapoport writes, the team wants to extend both Smith and backup quarterback Drew Lock, but extension talks won't begin until the offseason.

Geno Smith Named Starting Quarterback For Seattle

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced quarterback Geno Smith would be the starter in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. Drew Lock struggled mightily and threw three interceptions in the preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys; shortly after that performance, Seattle announced Smith as the team's starting quarterback. He completed three of six pass attempts for 43 yards and led the Seahawks to a field goal in his lone series in Friday's loss. The 31-year-old wasn't the best last year but was serviceable during his time as the starter while Russell Wilson was out due to a finger injury. From Weeks 5-8, Smith threw five touchdowns and one interception, averaging 175 yards per game. Smith and Lock have been fighting for the starting gig all offseason, so if the veteran doesn't perform well during the first couple of games, there is a good chance Lock will take over. While Smith is starting, he will be a low-end QB2 at best, making him mainly an option in superflex league formats.

Geno Smith Will Start Friday’s Preseason Finale

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith will be under center for the team's final preseason tuneup Friday against the Cowboys. Smith will have started all three preseason outings for Seattle, who has yet to officially name a starting signal caller for Week 1 of the regular season vs. Denver. Drew Lock may not get the start, but the plan is for him to play extensively in the team's final warmup outing. Smith started three games last year for the Seahawks and completed 68.4% of his passes, while recording five passing touchdowns to just one interception. Lock is new to the franchise after having sporadically started with the Broncos since 2019, with whom he went 8-13 as a starter. Neither quarterback has season-long fantasy appeal due to shaky track records of production.

    Geno Smith Returns To Practice

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (knee) split repetitions with the first-team offense at training camp practice on Sunday. Drew Lock was set to start the second preseason game last Thursday against the Chicago Bears before he tested positive for COVID-19, but with Lock also returning to practice on Sunday, it's unclear what the plan at QB will be this week for the preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys. Smith suffered a minor bruised knee last Thursday against the Bears, but he should be just fine. Head coach Pete Carroll isn't in a rush to name the starting QB heading into Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, but it's expected to be Smith. Lock figures to play a lot against Dallas, and if he performs well and Smith continues to struggle, Lock could win the job.

Geno Smith Bangs His Knee Thursday

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that quarterback Geno Smith (knee) banged his knee in Thursday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears but that he could have returned to the contest. The injury doesn't seem serious at all and shouldn't affect Smith's availability for the start of the regular season. The 31-year-old started on Thursday with Drew Lock out with COVID-19, and he went 10-for-18 for 112 yards. Even if Lock is healthy enough to start the team's final preseason game next week, Smith is looking like the favorite to start under center in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. Smith hasn't stood out by any means this summer at training camp, and he'll be nothing more than a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers in superflex leagues as the starter.
