T.J. Hockenson To Play Key Role Sunday

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson has worked hard to learn his new team's offense and is expected to play a key role during Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. He notes that the team "plans to get [Hockenson] in there as much as it can." The 25-year-old should be viewed as a solid TE1 option in his Vikings debut.

Vikings Acquire T.J. Hockenson From The Lions

The Minnesota Vikings acquired tight end T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick and a 2024 conditional fourth-round pick from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick, according to sources. It's a stunner before Tuesday's deadline. Irv Smith Jr. is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and will miss some time, so Hockenson will immediately jump in as Minnesota's top pass-catching tight end. Hockenson's fantasy upside should increase in a pass-happy Vikings offense, although there are plenty of mouths to feed in Minnesota. Back in Detroit, Brock Wright and rookie James Mitchell will see elevated roles the rest of the year, but the departure of Hockenson will mean more targets for Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond and running backs D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.

    T.J. Hockenson Limited On Thursday

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (knee) bumped up to a limited practice on Thursday after he was a non-participant on Wednesday. Hockenson could eventually be listed as questionable for Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins, but the fact that he's back on the practice field gives him a shot to play. The potential return of running back D'Andre Swift (ankle, shoulder) this weekend could allow Hockenson some more room to roam in the middle of the field if he's able to play. Hockenson has left a lot to be desired from his fantasy managers at times this year, but he also has three touchdowns and a 100-yard performance in Week 4. If he's active, he'll be a low-end TE1 in Week 8.

    T.J. Hockenson Misses Wednesday's Practice

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (hip), along with a number of the team's offensive weapons, did not participate in practice on Wednesday. Hockenson is coming off of a dominant performance in Week 4 in which he operated as the primary target for quarterback Jared Goff with Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), D.J. Chark (ankle), and D'Andre Swift (shoulder, ankle) all inactive. It is unclear if Hockenson's hip injury could force him to miss any time, but head coach Dan Campbell did indicate that several players would rest on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should pay attention to practice reports throughout the week, but Hockenson could be primed for a key role once again assuming he is able to suit up in Week 5.

T.J. Hockenson Off The Week 4 Injury Report

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (foot) was taken off the Week 4 injury report on Friday and will play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Hockenson sat out of Wednesday's practice, was limited on Thursday and built up to a full practice on Friday, so he's good to go this weekend. With both running back D'Andre Swift (ankle, shoulder) and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), the team's two best playmakers, already being ruled out, Hockenson should take on an elevated role in the passing game against the Seahawks. The 25-year-old has a touchdown in three games, but he's added only 10 receptions for 82 yards on his 18 targets. He'll have an opportunity for some big production in Week 4 as a low-end TE1.

    T.J. Hockenson Practicing Thursday

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (foot) is back at practice on Thursday after being held out on Wednesday. Hockenson, like many other Lions, suffered his injury in Week 3 against the Vikings after also dealing with a hip ailment leading up to last week. The 25-year-old hasn't had a great start to the season, as he has caught just 10 passes for 82 yards in three games. He's averaging a respectable six targets per game, but he is clearly behind Amon-Ra St. Brown for looks from quarterback Jared Goff. He likely has a limited ceiling in terms of fantasy production in the Detroit offense, but if he is able to suit up Sunday, fantasy managers can treat him as a mid-range TE1 option.

    T.J. Hockenson Misses Practice Wednesday

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (foot) is dealing with a foot injury and did not take part in practice on Wednesday. Hockenson has been pretty beat up early on this season but hasn't missed a game, as he played through a hip injury in the Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and caught three of four targets for 18 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was nice, but Hockenson has underwhelmed with 10 catches for 82 yards through three games. Fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on his practice status the rest of the week before we determine if he'll be available in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. If he plays and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) is unavailable, Hockenson could be in line for his best game of the young season.

T.J. Hockenson Active For Week 3

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (hip) is officially active for Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. This shouldn't be much of a surprise considering Hockenson was expected to play all along. Through two games, Hockenson has seven receptions for 64 yards, which is certainly below expectations. Right now, fantasy managers should consider Hockenson a low-end TE1 for this matchup.

D'Andre Swift, T.J. Hockenson Expected To Play Sunday

Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift (ankle) and tight end T.J. Hockenson (hip) are expected to play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Both players had been listed as questionable. Swift has been the RB3 in PPR leagues this season, amassing an impressive 200 rushing yards, 62 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. He should continue to be viewed as one of the best backs in fantasy football. Meanwhile, Hockenson has fallen victim to the surge of Swift and Amon-Ra St. Brown, restricting him to just seven catches for 64 yards this year. He has fallen to low-end TE1 territory.

T.J. Hockenson Records Limited Practice On Wednesday

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Hockenson has been a bit of a disappointment for the Lions so far this season. Despite being viewed as a player with great potential, the fourth-year pro hasn't been able to put it together in the first two weeks as he's averaging just 32 yards per game with a 50 percent catch rate. This limited practice is likely just to give the 25-year-old a slight break before practicing in full later on. After disappointing early in the season, Hockenson will look to bounce back for fantasy managers against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.
